Biography

Laufey Jensdóttir (1985) has been involved in a wide range of projects in the Icelandic music scene in the past few years. Performing regularly in Icelands biggest concert halls, wether as a soloist, a chamber or orchestra musician she has received great reviews and was supported by the Icelandic artist fund for her performance as soloist with Brák baroque ensemble in the year 2017.

Laufey started playing the violin at the age of four, as a student of the Suzuki School of Music in Iceland. At the age of 12 she went on to study at the Reykjavík College of Music with Lin Wei, Margrét Kristjánsdóttir and Una Sveinbjarnardóttir. Later she pursued further studies in the Netherlands at the Conservatory of Utrecht with Elisabeth Perry. There she took chamber music lessons with among others Kees Hulsmann, the Utrecht String Quartet, Richard Wolfe and Martijn van den Hoek. In the Netherlands Laufey had the opportunity to expand her knowledge on period and baroque performance and took lessons with baroque violinists Antoinette Lohmann and Enrico Onofri. Furthermore she participated in baroque performances with Jan Willem de Vriend and Antoinette Lohman. In the past Laufey has been a member of many youth orchestras, for example The Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester and Orkester Norden to name a few.

In 2012 Laufey joined the band Sigur Rós for an extended world tour of over eighteen months. During breaks in between touring she played as a substitute violinist with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and performed as a soloist in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at the Harpa International Music Academy in June 2013.

She has performed with many Icelandic chamber groups such as; Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, The Hallgrímskirkja International Baroque Ensemble and Brák Baroque Ensemble of which she is a founder and project manager. She performs regularly as a chamber musician, and has participated in various established concert series in Iceland such as Sígildir Sunnudagar in Harpa and Tíbrá concert series in Kópavogur, Iceland.

Laufey currently holds a substitute place at the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, with whom she has been playing regularly since the year 2012.

Laufey Jensdóttir (1985) hóf nám á fiðlu fjögurra ára gömul við Tónlistarskóla Íslenska Suzukisambandsins. Síðar nam hún við Tónlistarskólann í Reykjavík hjá Lin Wei, Margréti Kristjánsdóttur og Unu Sveinbjarnardóttur. Árið 2006 fluttist hún til Hollands og hóf þar nám við Tónlistarháskólann í Utrecht hjá Elisabeth Perry. Þar nam hún kammermúsík m.a. hjá The Utrecht String Quartet, Kees Hulsmann og Martijn van den Hoek. Einnig fékk Laufey tækifæri til að dýpka þekkingu sína á upprunaspilamennsku og sótti námskeið og tíma hjá barrokkfiðluleikurunum Enrico Onofri og Antoinette Lohman. Hefur Laufey verið meðlimur í hinum ýmsu ungmennahljómsveitum gegnum tíðina og má þar helst nefna Orkester Norden og Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester.

Laufey hefur verið meðlimur í og komið fram á tónleikum með hinum ýmsu kammerhópum en má þar helst nefna: Kammersveit Reykjavíkur, Strengjasveitina Skark, Barokkbandið Brák, The Okkr Ensemble; sem lék með hljómsveitinni Sigur Rós á tónleikaferðalagi þeirra 2012-2013 og Strengjasveit U sem sá um hljóðfæraleik á nýjustu plötu Bjarkar, Vulnicuru.

Laufey er einn stofnanda Barokkhljómsveitarinnar Brákar sem sérhæfir sig í upprunaflutningi og hefur staðið fyrir þónokkrum tónleikum í Reykjavík og Skálholti frá árinu 2015.
Þá hefur Laufey leikið inn á upptökur með ýmsum sveitum og listamönnum en má þar nefna Björk, Hjaltalín, Ólaf Arnalds, Múm og SÍ.
Laufey hefur leikið og komið fram á tónleikum með Kammersveit Reykjavíkur frá árinu 2013. Þá hefur hún starfað tímabundið við Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands frá árinu 2014 og gegnir nú afleysingastöðu fiðlu við hljómsveitina.
